What Does Hornbeam Help With...

10ml and 25ml Hornbeam Remedy bottles

Hornbeam helps those who feel that they lack the mental strength to carry out the everyday tasks of their lives. Those in need of this remedy often experience a state of procrastination brought on by a kind of mental weariness or staleness. They feel tired even after a good nights sleep and find it very difficult to get going in the morning, maybe needing several cups of coffee in order to be ready to face the day. However once they eventually do get going they usually discover that they are perfectly capable of completing their day’s work.

Dr Bach’s Description of Hornbeam

Dr Edward Bach portrait

"For those who feel that they have not sufficient strength, mentally or physically, to carry the burden of life placed upon them; the affairs of every day seem too much for them to accomplish, though they generally succeeded in fulfilling their task. For those who believe that some part, of mind or body, needs to be strengthened before they can easily fulfil their work."

More Insights Into Hornbeam

"Hornbeam embodies the Soul's potential for mental vitality. In the negative Hornbeam state you feel tired and worn out, like an old rubber band gone limp. However, this fatigue largely takes place only in your mind. Every office worker knows the feeling when the alarm clock rings on Monday morning and your routine once again beckons. What lies ahead is a largely familiar, monotonous work week offering little variety or genuine responsibility but many tedious demands a thousand little things to keep track of, routines to be maintained, unfinished projects to be completed, guidelines to be followed. All this looms like a dark mountain, and you believe you don't have the strength to cope. " The Encyclopedia of Bach Flower Therapy by Mechthild Scheffer

"There is a third remedy which fits into this little group concerning people who are holding back from involvement in life: Hornbeam. Bach did not note the order of discovery, nor did Weeks, but Hornbeam flowers at the same time as Larch and has certain qualities in common. While Larch stands back through lack of confidence, Hornbeam stands back through lack of determination and strength. It is 'for those who do not feel they have sufficient strength, mentally or physically, to carry the burden of life placed upon them' Once again Bach is feeling burdened. This time the burden is not responsibility, as it was with Elm but the weight of work, the slog of it, the feeling that too great an effort is required. The shift in emphasis is really quite subtle between these early boiling remedies. It can be explained clearly enough, however, by visualizing Bach at this time and allowing ourselves to resonate with his state of mind. He knows how to do his present work (Chestnut Bud), he has regained the personal confidence to attempt it (Larch) yet he can't quite shake himself into action, he still cannot, as it were, get out of bed. Why? Because 'some part of the mind or body needs to be strengthened before they can easily fulfil their work' Note the use of 'easily. It can be done but it is such a great effort. " Bach Flower Remedies Form & Function by Julian Barnard

"The weariness for which we prescribe Hornbeam is, properly speaking, a fatigue that asserts itself more in the mind than in the body. There are times when a person is assailed by the doubt that he has sufficient strength or ability to face either life or his work; yet in spite of that, he usually accomplished the task without difficulty. At these times, Hornbeam will fortify him mentally and physically. In convalescence it helps those patients who question whether they have the physical strength to use their limbs, or to walk; it also helps those who feel that they do not have sufficient mental energy to return to work. In health, this Remedy gives "backbone' to those who feel weary in mind and body. There are those who say: "I feel more tired getting up in the morning than when I go to bed", or "I often feel that I cannot cope with the things and ideas that I have to deal with at the moment." Hornbeam is the Remedy for such people." Illustrated Handbook of the Bach Flower Remedies by Philip Chancellor
