What Does Heather Help With...

10ml and 25ml Heather Remedy bottles

Heather is the remedy for those whose inner sense of isolation and loneliness manifests as a compulsive need to talk about themselves to anyone and everyone - even a complete stranger. When in an acute state, those in need of this remedy appear to have their thoughts entirely focussed on themselves and can cause unsuspecting listeners to feel as though they are unable to escape by the very force of their conversation. They make very poor listeners and sadly can drive people away by the very strength of their own neediness. Heather will help to relieve this state so that they are more in touch with the need to give as well as receive.

Dr Bach’s Description of Heather

Dr Edward Bach portrait

"Those who are always seeking the companionship of anyone who may be available, as they find it necessary to discuss their own affairs with others, no matter whom it may be. They are very unhappy if they have to be alone for any length of time."

From the Twelve Healers & Other Remedies - By Dr Edward Bach ( 1936 edition )

More Insights Into Heather

"Heather relates to the Soul's potential for self-identification and empathy. If you're in the negative Heather state, all your thoughts and feelings revolve exclusively around yourself and your problems. This state can be seen in extroverted and introverted forms. As is true with most Bach Flower states, at one time or another almost everyone will experience the negative Heather state. A chronic extroverted negative Heather state makes for a good cartoon character. One phrase says it all: 'He came, he saw-and he kept talking!'" The Encyclopedia of Bach Flower Therapy by Mechthild Scheffer

"These people have become lonely and they react by talking obsessively about themselves to anyone who will listen. From the earliest commentary upon this remedy, written by Victor Bullen in 1956, we learn that anyone may suffer from this at times. There is the urge to talk about oneself, becoming unduly self-concerned, despite awareness of being boring. It is another way to react to chronic life problems. People talk obsessively about a divorce, a bereavement, an illness, an operation. Just as with Oak and Gorse, this happens, said Bach, because of lost hope, although sufferers may not be conscious of that as the cause." Bach Flower Remedies Form & Function by Julian Barnard

"Heather people are always concerned about themselves. They are filled with their ailments, their problems, and even the trivia of their day. They like to tell others about their difficulties, and to discuss them whenever they can. The Heather type talks rapidly and incessantly, always bringing the topic of conversation to themselves. Here is a typical remark about a Heather person: 'She must always be the center of interest. At table, she always tries to steer the conversation back to herself or to her house. Her grandchildren make bets on how quickly she can turn the conversation to herself!'" Illustrated Handbook of the Bach Flower Remedies by Philip Chancellor
