The Work and Philosophy of Dr Edward Bach

Dr Edward Bach dedicated his life to understanding illness and disease and to helping people to overcome the problems that they faced in life. His life's journey took him from orthodox allopathic medicine, through bacteriology, homoeopathy and onto the Flower Remedies for which he is now so well known.

Nora Weeks, who was Dr. Bach's assistant, friend and biographer, said that he was guided in life by a deep desire to understand the root cause of illness and disease and help people to relieve their suffering. She wrote: "He saw also that little was done for the greater number of their complaints beyond palliation and suppression of symptoms, and he determined to find a way to ease their minds and heal their bodies, for he was still convinced there was a simple method of healing to be found, one which would cure all disease, including those called chronic and incurable."

During his life's journey he gradually began to understand what he considered to be the root causes of illness and disease, and the philosophy they he developed is as simple as it is profound.

During his life's journey he gradually began to understand what he considered to be the root causes of illness and disease, and the philosophy they he developed is as simple as it is profound:

"Disease is in essence the result of conflict between Soul and Mind, and will never be eradicated except by spiritual and mental effort. Such efforts, if properly made with understanding, as we shall see later, can cure and prevent disease by removing those basic factors which are its primary cause." ( 'Heal Thyself' by Dr Edward Bach).

He knew at a very deep level that life on the physical plane of existence was meant to be a conscious partnership between our personality selves ( mind and emotion ) and the part of ourselves that is eternally connected to our Creator – the Soul; i.e. to have a conscious connection between mind, body and spirit. When these aspects of ourselves function in absolute harmony, then we experience balance at all levels of our being.

This message is basically the same message that all of the great Sages and Masters of the past have given to humanity. It represents the unchanging truth of the Universe and one that we still collectively need to remember in order for us to be able to bring our world and ourselves into balance and harmony. You can hear this message time and again in Dr Bach’s work as he seeks to remind humanity of this innate knowledge that is held deeply within all of us.

The 38 Bach Flower Remedies were developed as tools that would help us to rise above the limited vision that we carry at a personality level and connect us with the true Essence of ourselves.

There are many who have used the Bach Flower Remedies who will never have heard of let know read about Bachs philosophy. There are a few who will have read the philosophy and not used the remedies. Its one of the funny things about Dr Bach and his work, that they can be split in this way. Maybe there was a part of him that knew how popular the remedies coud become and how way ahead of its time his philosophy was.

Dr Bach on Illness and his Remedies: "In illness there is a change of mood from that in ordinary life, and those who are observant can notice this change often before, and sometimes long before, the disease appears, and by treatment can prevent the malady ever appearing. When illness has been present for some time, again the mood of the sufferer will guide to the correct remedy. Take no notice of the disease, think only of the outlook on life of the one in distress."
